The Taxpayer Advocate Service presented this seminar at the 2013 IRS Nationwide Tax Forum, and the information was correct at the time of recording.
Anyone who must file a tax return and is not eligible for a Social Security number must apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because residents and nonresidents alike may have filing requirements. Generally, the IRS requires individuals to attach a paper tax return to their ITIN applications. This session covers these and other ITIN issues.
