The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) delivered this seminar at the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum in July 2012.
The IRS sends Publication 1, Your Rights as a Taxpayer, to every taxpayer it contacts. But do taxpayers read the publication (we hear they don’t) and understand their rights? This presentation will discuss IRS policies and processes that affect your clients’ rights, with the focus on how you can advocate for those rights.
By the end of this presentation you will:
- Know the legislation that provides the basis for most taxpayer rights
- Understand specific rights as defined in Publication 1, Your Rights as a Taxpayer
- Learn the taxpayer’s obligations, including the obligation to be honest, cooperative, and provide accurate information and documentation on time
No prerequisites or advanced preparation are required for this seminar.
